Bedruthan Steps & Mawgan Porth
So today we ticked another 3 miles of Cornish coastline off the list. The photos look great but what they don’t show is the strong winds that had blown down the Celtic Sea and headed straight for the U.K. coastline.
We started off from the National Trust car park at Carnewas (Bedruthan Steps) and headed west towards Mawgan Porth. The sea was full of beautiful Mediterranean colours combined with shadows from the clouds above.
The walk into Mawgan Porth was just over a mile with a few little climbs but nothing too strenuous. High tide had been just over a hour before we arrived on the beach so was perfect for playing ball when we got down there.
After a nice play on the beach, we followed the coast path west towards Watergate Bay. We followed the coastpath for about a mile and half until we reached a high point where the winds were really picking up. It was at this point that common sense came into play and we turned around to retrace our paw and footsteps.
Back we headed, retracing our steps and being wary of the winds and the slightly uneven ground. Down the steps we went back into the shelter of the bay and a golden sand beach now the tide had had another hour to retreat, the bonus being more beach to once again play on.
After about half hour splashing in the puddles sprocket was starting to flag a little bit, must be hard running across damp sandy beaches. Back up the cliffs we climbed and followed the path back around to Bedruthan Steps and a big bowl of biscuits and water...
